US Open 2013 Predictions

Who Is In Jack's Top 5 For 2013's Second Major?

With 2013’s second major almost upon us, it is time for PG’s straight talking oracle, Jack, to cast his eye over the players fighting for the 2013 US Open title, held this year at Merion Golf Club.

————–

So far this year has been good for me on the predictions front, Tiger to safely establish himself as the dominant force in golf, Rory to not win a tournament (at the time of writing), and Luke Donald to return to his rightful position outside the world’s Top 5.

Merion is a classic course, less than 7000 yards, the players are saying that they will have 9 opportunities with a wedge. However, the rough will be brutal, and the greens firm, slick and unrelenting.

I have picked 5 players who will contend:

Tiger Woods

He won’t hit driver much, favouring the stinger 2 iron and 3 wood, plotting his way round the course, picking up birdies here and there. Don’t look past him this time.

Steve Stricker

Straight hitting, possibly the best wedge game on tour, and a fabulous putting touch, this could be Stricker’s week.

Zach Johnson

His terrier style play, great wedge game (won Masters without going for any Par 5’s in 2), and the ability to pour in 10-20 footers, this course will be a grinders paradise.

Graeme McDowell

Seems to relish the tough courses, this course should suit G Mac to the ground.

Jimmy Walker

Who? I said the same thing until I looked at the stats, over 1.5 million dollars so far this year, currently leading proximity to the hole from 75 to 150 yards, and has yet to miss a cut this year, if you are looking for a no name to run out of the blocks, look no further.
