Ryder Cup Predictions

Who We Think Will Win this Year's #RyderCup

Precision-Golf_Ryder Cup 2012_smI’m making a bold prediction for the Ryder Cup, USA win by 3 points.

With so much recent success in the past few Ryder Cups, and with the likes of Rory playing so well, people would, on the face of it, think Europe should be in line for another win. But let’s look deeper.

The course – a Midwestern American classic with long, undulating greens. Davis Love has had 600 trees removed and built in 15 yards of semi rough on each hole, so even Tiger should be in play from the tee. It can only set up well for big hitting American players who will be paired with steady Zach Johnsons and Jim Furkys, allowing guys like Mickleson and Watson to run riot.

The crowd – Chicago sports fans are some of the most rowdy and vocal in the world, you think Brookline was bad? These fans will be louder, however Chicagoans do also tend to be a little fairer!

The USA team – for the first time in I can’t remember how long, the US team have real strength in depth. Having to leave out the current world match play champion Hunter Mahan and current No 3 in the Fedex cup rankings Nick Watney shows that their team goes right down to the 12th man. Compare that to the likes of Kaymer who, although showing recent traces of form, is in a real slump. Molinari has gone quiet and who wants to see him with 4 ft for the half? And if Donalds putting dries up, which it has in recent weeks, he will get blown off the course by a big hitting, revved up player from team USA.

I dearly want Europe to win and wish them all the best but it isn’t going to be pretty! If we do triumph it will surely be one of the greatest ever European performances.
