Who Will Win The 2014 Masters?

Who Will Win The 2014 Masters?

Time For Jack's Predictions!

????????????The weather is improving, the courses are drying up, and The Masters is a matter of days away (22!). So who will contend, and ultimately win?

Only players with real pedigree win here, as precise distance control and nerveless putting separate the top players quickly, I’m also going to rule out short hitters (I know I know, Zach Johnson won, but only due to freak weather causing nobody to be able to attack par 5’s). On a warm week with soft condition, the bombers have too much of an advantage for the short hitters to overcome.

Next is recent form, players without any form won’t compete here.. so look for people showing good signs but not setting the world alight. It is very rare the defending champ contends, the hoopla surrounding them is too distracting, and Augusta twists and turns your more than any other course, meaning rookies rarely contend either.

So we are looking for big hitters, showing good signs of form, past experience at Augusta but not peaking too soon, and not the last years champ.

Tiger Woods

As much as it pains me to say, I don’t fancy Tiger this time, a bad back, putts slipping past, one of the shakiest starts ever to a season.

Henrik Stenson

Fantastic season last year, however, his short iron play and wedges have always been suspect relative to the rest of his game, and this will haunt him where even a yard out gets punished at Augusta.

Sergio Garcia

Too many 6 footers will slide by unfortunately.

Lee Westwood

 Read Garcia’s again!

Luke Donald

I love his swing work this year and think he will be a big factor at Pinehurst or Hoylake, but not this week.

This leaves me with the following:

Rory McIlroy

Towering irons, contending week in week out, statistically the best driver of the ball in history, I’d be amazed if he wasn’t in the thick of things.

Jason Day

Long, straight, steely nerves on the green, a big win under his belt this year already in the Accenture Match Play, totally controlling the final yet receiving a fraction of the praise compared to the other finalist.

Justin Rose

No flaws in his game these days, major under his belt, good signs at Innesbrook last week.

Phil Mickelson

Game made for Augusta, he’ll already be preparing, is there one more green jacket for Phil?

Matt Kuchar

Another player who does nothing wrong, grinds scores and if he hits form will contend.

Graeme McDowell

Great putter, fierce competitor, everything would have to go right for him, but don’t rule him out.

My overall choice? I’m going for…..

Rory McIlroy!
