Awards are the Icing on the Cake to an Incredible 2012 for Chapman

2 Majors, Order of Merit, Honourary Membership, Player of the Year. Not Bad!

As one of Precision Golf’s oldest friends (as in long serving, not age, sorry Roger!), we have been delighted to see Roger Chapman have the most successful season of his career.

Not only did he take the 2012 USPGA Seniors Championship, winning by 2 at Harbor Shores in Lake Michigan, less than two months later he had his hands on the U.S Senior Open trophy. Starting the final day 4 strokes behind a certain Bernhard Langer, Roger held his nerve to shoot 66 and take the title, 2 strokes ahead of Langer, Tom Lehman, Fred Funk and Corey Pavin; not bad company! This puts Roger in an elite quartet with Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Hale Irvin, the only other players to win the Senior’s USPGA and US Open in the same year.

However, his year wasn’t over yet. Roger finished the year as European Senior Tour Order of Merit winner, and in December, he was awarded Honourary Life Membership to the European Tour to recognise the magnitude of his double-major winning season. (full story here:

This year was then rounded off nicely by being awarded the Golf Writers Association of America’s Player of the Year on the Champions Tour, with a comprehensive 60% of the vote, way out in front of second place Tom Lehman with 22.6% (full story: Roger will be joining PGA and LPGA Tour player’s of the year Rory McIlroy and Stacey Lewis to be honoured at the GWAA Annual Awards Dinner, held at none other than Augusta National Golf Club, the day before the Masters 2013 first round. To say we’re a tad jealous could be seen as a massive understatement!

All in all, what a year for Roger. The PG team are incredibly proud and wish him all the best for 2013.
