United – October 2012

PG's United October 2012 Equipment Review

Following on with our October reviews, Simon has a look at the United PB Range. Is the “Power Band” technology something that would appeal to or help you? Here are our thoughts.

PBD

The “Power Band” technology used on the sides of the head help to maintain structural integrity of the head and the “Power Bands” on the top and sole are designed to expand and contract to optimise energy transfer to the ball through impact (the band across the crown also helps with alignment). This creates a very forgiving head with the deep weight positioning creating an easy launching head but with low spin characteristics and a strong overall performance.

The same “Power Band” technology is used in the fairway woods as the driver and with a midsize head, all black finish and clean, simple shape it makes the head look slightly smaller than it actually is. Very easy to flight giving a mid-launch and spin performance, the white grooves help to see all the loft and give confidence.

This also shares the “Power Band” technology as the driver and fairway woods. The curved sole helps to get good contact from a variety of lies. The classic and neutral shaped head and white grooves keep a compact shape but again highlight all the loft on the club for confidence at address. A very easy launching head and more wood-like in the way it plays making it  forgiving head with the lofts designed to tie in with iron lofts to allow direct long iron replacement.
